Nicole Morris

Nicole Morris is an an elasmobranch biologist and science communicator based in San Diego, CA. Nicole will graduate with her masters in biology from Miami University's Advanced Inquiry Program in December 2024.  Alongside a passion for Southern California ecology and community-based conservation, her research interests include shark and ray biology, stress physiology, kinematics, and social behaviors. In 2022, she starred in Diving for Rays, a documentary for WaterBear Network that covers her journey as a queer woman in marine biology. Committed to community engagement, Nicole collaborates with organizations like Jackson Wild and Outdoor Outreach to connect communities to conservation efforts. When she's not looking for stingrays, she can be found exploring southern California, singing to her parrot Korra, or playing Dungeons & Dragons with her friends.

RESEARCH

Engaging communities in conservation requires a deep understanding of marine ecosystems. I focus on shark and ray (elasmobranch) biology, stress physiology, and social behaviors to inform effective communication strategies for fostering marine conservation awareness among diverse audiences.

SCICOM

Effective communication is essential for engaging local communities in conservation. I look at science-backed methods for communicating marine science to local and marginalized communities.
